How to choose your surgeon

It is not always easy to choose a surgeon to trust with a task as delicate as the modification of your face or body. Here is some advice that may help with your decision.

Choose a surgeon with a FMH certificate in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery who is also a member of a national European society of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, reflecting their good training and ethics.

Choose a surgeon with experience such as head physician in plastic surgery in a university hospital. This is evidence of the fact that the surgeon independently takes responsibility for surgery patients.

Ask for advice from your consultant regarding the surgeon you have chosen.

Choose a surgeon who has experience in one or more reputable clinics (for example, in Geneva: Grangettes Clinic, Générale-Beaulieu Clinic). This is evidence of the surgeon’s acceptance among doctors in other specialities.

Choose a surgeon who has a valid professional insurance for plastic reconstructive and esthetic surgery.

Because of the growing number of people seeking aesthetic treatment, there is an increase in the treatment on offer. As a result, more and more patients consult with plastic surgeons following complications from aesthetic treatments. Consult a surgeon who does not merely suggest injections or laser treatments, but who has surgical training and can choose what is best for you from a large range of medical and surgical treatments.

Finally, the surgeon must be able to provide you with clear information about the suggested treatment, along with its risks, benefits and alternatives.
