Planning and convalescence
During your first consultation, you will have an opportunity to express your expectations and discuss the planned surgery. The surgeon will explain to you the after-effects of the surgery and the possible complications. He or she will also take some photos of the subject area of your body, which can be compared later with photos taken after the surgery.
Below are some important notes and advice for patients who will receive surgical treatment:
• Two weeks before the surgery, stop taking aspirin, aspirin derivatives (Aspegic, Aspro, etc.) and anti-inflammatories. These medications increase the risk of bleeding after the surgery. The blood may also stop the beams in laser treatment.
• Please inform the surgeon of any medication you are taking and any allergies you have to medications or dressing materials. Continue to follow any regular medical treatments unless requested otherwise by the doctor.
• You should stop smoking at least 2 weeks before the surgery. Cigarettes decrease blood flow to the skin and therefore slow the healing process. In the case of general anaesthesia, we recommend that patients cut back on cigarettes in order to avoid coughing after the surgery.
• The surgeon will decide whether blood tests or radiological tests must be carried out before the surgery. These exams are performed at least two weeks in advance.
• If your health changes before an operation, such as from the flu or a skin infection, you must contact the surgeon immediately.
• If your surgery will be performed under local anaesthesia, you can have a light snack beforehand. In all other cases, you must fast from midnight the night before the surgery.
• When the surgery takes place at another clinic, we will reserve a room for you there. The day of the surgery, you will report directly to the clinic’s reception desk. They will lead you to the room where you can wait for the surgery. The anaesthesiologist will put you to sleep and then monitor you throughout the entire operation. You will also see your surgeon, who will answer any last-minute questions you may have and then mark your skin in preparation for the operation.
• For surgery affecting the face, please do not apply make-up on the day of the surgery.
• The evening and morning before the surgery, please wash the area to be operated on with a disinfecting soap.
• Please remember any special clothing items that the surgeon has asked you to bring (girdle, bra, underwear, bathing suit, etc.).
• You will receive a prescription for pain relieving and anti-inflammatory medication. Please carefully follow the prescription in order to feel more comfortable after the surgery.
• If you notice any unexpected change around the operated region, such as pain, heat and/or redness, contact us immediately.
• Generally, bandages will be opened and checked 48 hours after the surgery.
• Depending on the case, surgical stitches will be removed 5 to 15 days after the surgery. Absorbable stitches, which we use in most cases, will not be removed. As the name indicates, absorbable stitches will gradually be absorbed in a few weeks.
